Based on the Northern style of Cha Quan and Hua Quan, wushu is the modern standardizied verson of Kungfu. Proponents of wushu include such notibles as Cai Yan Long, Wang Jurong, Wu Bin and Jet Li.

The most obvious advantage of wushu is standardization for competition. the advantage is that through this approach the martial applications are gradually eroded. A special characteristic of wushu is the liveliness of the performance. This is a strong demonstration of the feature of "Southern Fist and Northern Leg" .

Indeed, this Northern style based martial art is full of kicks and jumps, making it almost resemble gymnastics. This feature also makes wushu into a perfect performing art. Wushu has been promoted and practiced in China since the 1950s. It's part of the China National Games which occurs once every two years.

There are also annual national martial arts competitions which include wush and Taiji. Wushu is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. the world wushu federation has over a hundred member countries. It's going to be part of the 2008 Olympic Games to be held in Beijing. People of all ages can practice the art of wushu but you will find that most practitioners are children aged 6-18, owing to the competitive nature of wushu.

The photos in this page are those of Zhang Yanping. She is a disciple of Master Li Enjiu and a student of Chen Zhonghua. She was a recent retiree of the famous Shandong Provincial Wushu team. As a member since the age of nine, she has been a major force of the Shandong team as a woman's captain.

She won numerous local, provincial, national and international competitions while a member of the team.

The Hunyuantaiji Academy wushu program is mainly designed for people aged 5-21. The emphasis is on health, flexibility and competition. Students are eventually introduced to taiji when they reach a more mature age for further training.

We provide many opportunities for students to learn directly from Chinese masters and champions. There are also opportunities for students to travel to China to travel with Chinese students.
